Chapter 1- How they met

The first thing I noticed about the college was how loud it was.

Not happy loud. Not excited loud.

Just… overwhelming.

Students rushed past me in every direction, laughing in groups, holding coffee cups, shouting names across corridors like they owned the place.

And I stood there.

With a timetable in one hand.

And absolutely no idea where I was supposed to go.

“Great,” I muttered under my breath. “First day and already lost.”

I checked the paper again.

B.B.A – Room 204.

Okay. Simple. Second floor.

Except the building had two staircases. And three corridors. And somehow I had already walked in circles twice.

My palms were slightly sweaty as I looked around.

Should I ask someone?

Everyone looked so… settled. Like they already belonged here.

And I was just an outsider who had walked into the wrong movie.

That’s when I saw him.

Leaning against the wall near the staircase. Hands in pockets. Calm. Unbothered. Watching people like he wasn’t part of them.

He looked like he knew exactly where he was going.

Unlike me.

I hesitated for two seconds.

Then walked toward him.

“Excuse me?” I said softly.

He looked up.

Dark eyes. Sharp jawline. Slightly messy hair. No smile.

Just… observing.

“Yes?” His voice was low. Lazy almost.

“Uh… do you know where Room 204 is? Business department?”

For a second, his eyes flickered to the timetable in my hand.

Then back to me.

He didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, the corner of his mouth lifted just a little.

“Second floor. Left corridor. Last room.”

“Oh!” I smiled instantly. “Thank you so much.”

He gave a small nod and looked away again like I didn’t exist anymore.

Weird.

But I didn’t think much of it.

I rushed upstairs.

Second floor. Left corridor.

I reached the last room.

Room 204.

I adjusted my bag nervously and peeked inside.

It was full.

But not psychology students.

It was… seniors.

And they were staring at me.

One guy in the back whistled softly.

“Well, hello.”

My stomach dropped.

This was not my class.

A girl near the front frowned. “Who are you?”

“I— I’m sorry. Is this B. B.A. Buisness ?”

The entire class burst out laughing.

A tall boy leaned back in his chair. “Buisness ? Sweetheart, this is final year Psychology .”

Heat rushed to my face.

Final year.

Seniors.

I looked down at my paper again.

Room 204.

But this wasn’t—

“Oh,” I whispered. “Sorry.”

Laughter followed me as I stepped out.

My ears burned.

That boy.

He misled me.

On purpose.

My hands tightened around the timetable.

Why would he do that?

I quickly checked the notice board near the stairs.

Buisness– Room 207.

Not 204.

He knew.

He definitely knew.

I felt something unfamiliar rise in my chest.

Embarrassment.

And anger.

I turned around and marched back downstairs.

He was still there.

Still leaning against the wall like he hadn’t moved an inch.

When he saw me walking toward him, one eyebrow lifted slightly.

“You sent me to the wrong class,” I said.

His expression didn’t change.

“Did I?”

“Yes. That was final year Economics.”

He looked thoughtful for a second.

“Oh.”

That’s it?

Oh?

“You knew,” I said quietly.

His gaze sharpened now.

“And what if I did?”

I blinked.

What kind of person—

“Why would you do that?” I asked.

He pushed himself off the wall slowly.

“First day?” he asked instead.

“Yes.”

“Thought so.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

He looked at me for a long second.

Then said casually, “Consider it a welcome test.”

“A test?”

“To see if you panic easily.”

I stared at him.

“I walked into a class full of seniors because of you.”

“And?” he tilted his head. “You survived.”

My jaw dropped slightly.

Unbelievable.

“I don’t even know your name,” I muttered.

“Good,” he replied calmly.

And just like that, he walked past me.

I stood there for two seconds in complete disbelief.

Then I shook my head.

Forget him.

Room 207.

Second floor. Right corridor.

This time, I double-checked before entering.

I took a deep breath.

And stepped inside.

The classroom was quieter than the previous one.

About thirty students.

All talking among themselves.

No one noticed me.

Not until—

A firm voice echoed from the front.

“Are you the new admission?”

I froze.

The teacher stood near the desk, spectacles resting low on her nose.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Come in. Don’t stand at the door. Introduce yourself.”

Every head turned toward me.

My throat suddenly felt dry.

I walked to the front slowly.

You can do this.

“Good morning,” I began softly. “My name is Siya—”

Half the class was already looking at their phones.

Two boys in the back were laughing about something else.

No one was listening.

No one cared.

“…I recently moved here,” I finished weakly.

Silence.

The teacher nodded. “Take a seat.”

That’s it.

No applause.

No smiles.

No welcome.

Just… indifference.

I scanned the room.

And then I noticed something strange.

There was no other girl.

Except me.

Not one.

Every single student in that class was a boy.

My stomach tightened.

Is this even the right batch?

I looked at the board again.

B. B. A. Buisness– Section B.

Correct.

Why were there no girls?

I swallowed and walked toward the last empty seat near the window.

And then I saw him.

Sitting in the third row.

Looking straight at me.

The same boy.

The one who misled me.

Of course.

Of course he was in this class.

His eyes held a flicker of something I couldn’t read.

Amusement?

Interest?

Challenge?

He leaned back slightly in his chair.

As if waiting.

For what, I had no idea.

I quickly looked away and sat down.

No one shifted.

No one smiled.

No one even bothered to say hi.

It was like I was invisible.

The teacher began the lecture.

Words about behavioral theories filled the room.

But my focus wasn’t on the board.

It was on the feeling.

Of being watched.

I could feel it.

His gaze.

Heavy.

Unapologetic.

I turned slightly.

And yes.

He was still looking at me.

Not smiling.

Not smirking.

Just staring.

As if I was some kind of puzzle he had decided to solve.

I faced forward again.

This was going to be a long semester.

And somehow…. I had a feeling. He was going to be part of it.
